A forty-five minute drive north of Kamloops BC, in the North Thompson Valley the town of Barriere BC. Barriere was incorporated to form a municipality district in November 2007.
Barriere is rich in history dating back to the days of fur trading. Barriere was named by French fur traders in 1828, for rocks in the nearby river which posed a barrier (French barriere) to navigation of the river, most likely these were fishtraps from times when First Nation people trapped spawning salmon.
Many lakes surround Barriere making it a perfect spot for boating, fishing, and camping.
Ranching and forestry are the main contributors to the economy of Barriere.

Location: Barriere is located just off the Yellowhead Highway 5 east of the Thompson River, midway between Kamloops in the south and Clearwater to the north.
