History - Darfield Players Theatre Group

The Darfield Players were a group of community theatre members that performed plays at the Darfield hall , in Darfield BC from the late 1940's until the mid 1960s.

The book "Exploring Our Roots" published by The Barriere & District Historical Society in 2004, offers this blurb on pg 39 "In 1952, a group of community actors, the Darfield Players, practiced and performed plays in the Chinook Cove Hall and traveled to Clearwater, Westwold and Louis Creek"

In 1978, the group was resurrected by Bill and Barbara Haug.

"AMATEUR THEATRE BY DARFIELD GROUP
To fill a ten year void left when the once active Darfield Players dissolved, a small group of North Thompson drama enthusiasts are now in rehearsal for a short theatrical production.
The curtain goes up on Monsieur Le Blanc, a medieval farce in one act written by Carl H. Larson, on Saturday, April 29 at 8 p.m. in the Darfield Community Hall.
But Barriere audiences will not have far to travel as the play will be presented on the Barriere Secondary School stage the following Saturday, May 6th at 8 p.m.
Initiating the formation of Community Stage is a Darfield couple, both with previous theatrical experience , Bill and Barbara Haug.
He takes on the direction of Stage Warmup, -starring writer, Barbara and Dodie Ovington. Bill, Robin Inkster and Barriere Secondary Grade 12 drama student, Paul Newberry, share the acting credits in Monsieur Le Blanc, directed by Barbara.
Half the proceeds from the Darfield production will go towards the Canadian Cancer Society ‘s annual April fund-raising drive.
The remainder of this and the proceeds of the Barriere performance are hoped to offset the 'out of pocket' expenses by the Haugs for lighting equipment, costumes, sets and royalties.
The $2.00 per person tickets are available' at the door. Come on out and support the first showing of this hard-working energetic group."

"The superb acting talents of Bill Haug, Paul Newberry and Robin Inkster were combined on Saturday night at the DarfieId Community Hall when the newly formed amateur theatrical group Community Stage presented a one act farce entitled Monsuer Le Blanc.
The premiere showing of the medieval love triangle farce was presented to a full house in Darfield as a fund raising venture for the Cancer Fund and will be repeated next Saturday night at the Barriere Senior Secondary School.
Director Barbara Haug, proved her experience in the theatrical world by bringing out the talents of the cast to present a highly entertaining and amusing evening.
Preceding the main play was a short piece written by Barbara Haug and directed by her husband Bill, entitled Warm Up. Dodie Ovington and Barbara Haug acted out the parts of this very human comedy skit. Keith Inkster, Allen Ovington and Kelly Brown carried out the stage and lighting duties.
The nine member group comprising Community Stage are hopeful that the presentation of this first performance will attract other amateur theatre enthusiasts from the area and an active company will be formed to present a series of plays starting next fall.
In any event there is an opportunity for those who enjoy live talent to be well entertained and have some really deep laughter at the second performance of this talented group on Saturday May 6 at the Barriere Secondary School. Considering the talents being offered, the $2 admission at the door is really a Bargain."
